Deadman Wonderland – Do You Want To Die? [YES]/[NO]

Deadman Wonderland 51

This sounds an awful lot like the thing you've been trying to STOP.

And so the pieces have fallen into place. From the information put forward in this chapter, I have a fairly good idea of how the next few chapters will go. According to Ganta, his Branch of Sin, which is what Hagire wanted in order to release the seal on the Wretched Egg, is also the one thing that can strengthen the seal. Based on this, he’s decided the best course of action is to plug his ability into the Mother Goose system and hope really hard that he can bring Shiro back, rather than accidentally unleash a walking natural disaster. And based on the look on his face in that panel, he’s pretty confident that this plan is in no way stupid or reckless. Read the rest of this entry

Mahou Sensei Negima – You Can’t Stay Young Forever (unless you’re Eva)

…and now Negi, I guess.

You would have gotten it faster if not for all those "research breaks".

I’ve mentioned a few times when I thought a series was concluding or moving toward some sort of ending. Even though the only series I read with a definite finale set is Bokura ga Ita, I’m also reading a lot of manga that feel like they’re reaching their climax. I’ve said a few times that Deadman Wonderland should be finished before the year is up, and I wouldn’t be all that surprised if Rosario + Vampire was in its final arc as well. For quite some time I’ve wondered if Negima was going to be finishing soon. It certainly feels like the story only has one arc left to tell, but considering how long the previous arcs have been and how much we still have to resolve, it’s still difficult to tell how far away the last chapter is. Even so, I can already see that steps are being taken toward that eventual end, and nowhere has this been more obvious then here. Read the rest of this entry

Liar Game – Chapter 145

What.

There’s a consistent pattern most rounds in Liar Game follow. There’s the set-up, the pre-game, and multiple levels of back and forth scheming before the big reveal at the end. If most of that doesn’t sound too formulaic, that’s because it really isn’t. It’s the sort of formula that allows for quite a bit of room to play around, which I think is the best kind of formula a series can have. However, there’s one thing that has been consistent in almost every round of this game, and it’s really starting to get kind of annoying. Every round starts off with Nao being made a fool of by the enemy. Read the rest of this entry

Chobits – Review

This means I’ve reviewed 2 shonen, 2 shojo and 2 seinen. That was totally not intentional.

That took too long! Between school and vacation, I couldn’t find a good time to actually work on this until recently. Hopefully I can release the next one in a much more timely fashion.

Current Manga Rankings – 2011 – Part 2

15. Rosario + Vampire II

What a long, awkward trip it’s been. I remember back when I started this manga and it was just another boring harem series with various random monsters to fight. Since then it’s grown up into a surprisingly well done series about the relationships the previous series began, and it manages to provide a good amount of depth to what were previously uninteresting characters. It even manages to make the action more interesting, since it’s no longer just Inner Moka stomping on everyone. I’ve actually started looking forward to the newest chapters, which I would never have expected at first. Read the rest of this entry
