Well, it’s that time of year again. In a few weeks I’ll have to write my finals. It’s been a rather annoying semester, and I really need to put some work into some of the remaining assignments I have before then. Lab writeups suck.
What does this mean for the website? It’s hard to say, since I’ve grown into a habit of doing schoolwork during the day and working on posts at night. Aside from the actual week of finals, it’s entirely possible the amount of posts might go relatively unchanged. I’m not sure if that says more about my overall productivity or my regular update schedule. Read the rest of this entry
Well, exams are finally finished. I’ve got a small amount of work to do for one class still, but otherwise I’ve started to get back on track. Manga updates should resume whenever interesting chapters start being released. Not sure when exactly that will be, but I know for certain that I’ll have a post for next week’s Liar Game, since it’s about something I thought would happen in the current chapter.
There’s also something I decided I would do since partway through exams. I wasn’t able to get my 12 Days of Anime/Manga up due to my busy schedule, but I still wanted to do something for the end of the year. That’s why I’m announcing two posts that will hopefully be out before the 31st. First is my Current Manga Ranking, which is the list of all the series I’m caught up ranked from least favourite to most favourite. All THIRTY of them! Yes, I was surprised by the number too. This also has the good side effect that I can talk about manga I haven’t been able to in the past.
Second, I wanted to eventually talk about the anime that came out this year, since I’m also a big anime fan. The problem is that not only have others been more expressive about them than me, but I’ve ended up missing a lot of the big names from this year. I do intend to watch Mirai Nikki, Mawaru Penguindrum, Usagi Drop and maaaaaybe Steins Gate. Of course this makes any top 10 list difficult, but I had another idea: the 2011 Anime Awards, where I only-slighly-seriously give out awards to the shows I watched this year and discuss how I felt about them. For example, I’ve got awards for “Best Assets”, “Best Use of Engrish” and “Best Show I Totally Forgot I Watched”. I don’t talk about anime a lot here, but I’d still like to get my word out there.
Glad to be finished finals, and I’m hoping I can go back to my schedule as soon as I can. Not that I really had a schedule before, but at least I still got posts out.
Actually, the blog became three months old on the 13th, I believe. I just had midterms and stuff to focus on until earlier today. There were only a few things I wanted to mention at this point. First is that with midterms done, I should be able to work on the Chobits review fairly soon. It might still take some time, since it’s a more complicated series than a lot of the previous ones I reviewed, but it helps that I have the entire collection, so finding pictures shouldn’t be an issue. After that, I’d like to do Rosario + Vampire, but there’s someone I’d to get in contact with who knows it better than I do. If not, then it’ll be either Fairy Tail or Gamaran. It felt a little strange, at first, to create my own blog. I actually started out on a communal anime/manga blog, ANiSPOT, and was there for a while before everyone else just sort of moved on (or, in one memorable case, started their own blog). After that, I just didn’t think of blogging again for a while. In fact, the original reason I made this website was just to keep the video reviews where people could see. But I’m really glad I started writing again. I really do enjoy discussing the different manga I read, and I also enjoy reading the comments I’ve been getting. Plus, if I didn’t start this blog up, I might never have found some of the other great blogs I’ve read.
After a month, I thought I would have gotten a bit tired of this, but I really haven’t. Actually, it’s only gotten easier over time. And 11 posts in one month is a good number, I think. There’s still quite a few things I still want to do, and some series I’d still like to discuss. That’s one of the big reasons for this post – I haven’t really spoken about what I have planned.
First off, the next video review IS coming. I have most of the audio recorded, and there’s just some of the on-camera segments I have to work out. I may end up having to rewrite one scene, because I’m not sure if what I originally had is appropriate enough. The good news is that I’m feeling a lot better about this episode so far. The last one actually became a featured video at Desu Des Brigade, so I have good reason to think I’m better than I think I am.
Then there’s the chapter discussions, and something I’ve been meaning to do is to review entire story arcs at once, after they finish. I wanted to do this for the Magic World arc from Mahou Sensei Negima, and possibly the S-Class Exam Arc from Fairy Tail when it finishes, among others. I did something like this for the flashback from Kenichi, and I’m likely going to try it with the recent flashback from Dengeki Daisy, but doing a several chapter story is different from doing an entire arc. Likely, it will be around the same length as the anime previews, which is quite a bit more work.
I’m also planning on the preview for Persona 4: The Animation. I’ll be using both the game and the official manga for this one, since I’d like to see for myself how the show could possibly work, and it’s a hard thing to picture without using the manga as a base.
I guess that’s mostly it. I just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to read my articles, even if you’re not the type who normally reads manga. I’m hoping things will get even better from here.
